What ‘Organic Ingredients’ Really Means

So you may have got your head wrapped around organic in the kitchen, but what about organic in the bathroom? It’s certainly true that you are what you eat, but given that your skin acts somewhat like a sponge and draws what you put on to your body in to your body, it is equally important to ensure that your beauty products are as chemical free as possible.

More and more frequently these days, hair and beauty product consumers are turning to Mother Nature as well as traditional farming and processing techniques to get the best results out of their beauty routine; and with good reason!

We take great pride in using only the very best, natural, plant-based organic ingredients which have been clinically proven time and again to beat synthetic alternatives not only in hair health and appearance, but also in caring for the environment too. Going organic is one of the best things you can do for your hair and body, inside and out – but why?

Are Organic Products Really Better Than Non-Organic?

In short, yes.

Organic cosmetic inspections are even more rigorous than food, so when it comes to beauty, organic really does mean better quality every time. Not only that, but the potentially hazardous nasties, harsh chemicals and preservatives regularly used in non-organic hair & beauty products travel through the skin, into the blood vessels and then around your entire body. This can then irritate sensitive skin on the surface, causing problems such as eczema and psoriasis and on the scarier end of the scale (due to carcinogens found in many major brands) encourage any number of potentially deadly illnesses over time.

If that wasn’t enough to sway you, the natural, plant based products used in beauty products are considerably better for your hair & skin and generally hugely more effective in promoting all over health and shine without drying or coating in plastic! Rather than faking it, our organic products contain natural ingredients that have been used for centuries to re-build hair structure, replenish stripped away essential proteins and fatty acids and boost all round health and shine. The lack of artificial, poison candy scent and foaming sulphates might take a little getting used to, but it won’t be long before you and your hair grow to love the gentle alternatives.

What Does Organic Mean?

Different things for different countries, but let’s stick with the UK for now. Organic products are (for some, wherever possible, but for TJK 100%!) free from GM, artificial fertilisers, pesticides and over-processing. It also means that your products will come from organic farms using more traditional farming techniques to maintain soil fertility, healthy plants, happy animals and any processing must have been done by ecologically sound means. What’s not to love?

How Does Organic Shampoo Work?

When you first start to step away from the world of sulphate and preservative laden shampoos, conditioners and treatments, you may find the lack of ‘foam’ a little odd! But don’t worry, our natural alternatives are cleaning your hair and scalp, just without all the usual detergents stripping away your hair’s natural oils.

A healthy scalp is the foundation for healthy hair. As your mane’s life support system, the scalp provides nutrients into the hair follicles to promote growth and strength to the emerging hair. As your strands grow, the scalp continues to nurture the hair by supplying protective oils, which help re-enforce your hair’s internal moisture balance.

By using a natural soap (Soapbark), our organic hair cleanser thoroughly cleans your hair and scalp without leaving you feeling irritated. To this, we add a concoction of soothing, moisturising and not to mention, delicious smelling organic ingredients which penetrate your hair shaft and strengthen follicles – rather than just layering up on top and weighing hair down. Many of our carefully selected, organic ingredients are chosen for their similar compositions to a healthy head of hair’s natural born structure. Aloe Vera, for example, is not only incredibly soothing but it is also able to replicate the effects of Keratin (hair’s naturally occurring protein), for ideally targeted conditioning. Ever wanted to get back the hair you had when you were little? This is how you do it!

Do you love organic products? Have you noticed a positive change in your hair since using them? Let us know, we’d love to hear about it…
